Thomas Tjapaltjarri
Thomas Tjapaltjarri was born around 1964 in Western Desert, Western Australia.
In 1984 Thomas Tjapaltjarri, his brothers Warlimpirrnga Tjapaltjarri, Walala Tjapaltjarri and family made national headlines as they walked out from the desert, west of Lake Mackay into Kiwirrkura establishing contact with the “modern world” for the first time. Called “the Last Nomads” had lived undetected and completely unaware of Western Culture for ever before they walked into the 20th Century, bringing with them intact Dreamings and lore that stretched back tens of thousands of years.
This painting conveys the stories of myth concerning early journey paths of Tingari Ancestors throughout the land performing sacred and mythical rituals which opened up new land and life.
