Marie Shilling was born in 1947 at Kalpa Station, Northern Territory. She lived in and around the Titjikala region for most of her life. Marie's dreaming is "Women Dreaming" related and her work provides a unique cultural and historical perspective of Aboriginal life in Central Australia depicting stories and experiences from her younger years.
Marie commenced painting in 2002 and has become well known for her style of work. Her representations are inspired by her immediate environment characterized by red sand hills and desert oaks. She utilises a full palette, often spiced with lively hues of violet, blue and yellow, capturing the broad range of brilliant colours reflected by the land, its' seasons and the local flora and fauna.
