Billy Stockman Tjapaltjarri
Billy Stockman Tjapaltjarri was born in 1927 at Mount Denison in Northern Territory. He passed away in September 2015. Billy Stockman Tjapaltjarri was one of the most famous artists of the Western Desert.
He lost his mother when he was 11 years old and was raised by his aunt. Clifford Possum Tjapaltjarri was his cousin.
Billy Stockman Tjapaltjarri was one of the few men that painted the Papunya School wall (the first art movement started by men).
He travelled to New York in 1988 for the opening of the show called "Dreamings". Billy and Michael Nelson Jagamarra, another famous artist from Papunya, created a sand painting at the exhibition.
